It’s been years since I’ve felt compelled to write a voluntary review for a book. I use the word review very lightly because I wouldn’t describe how I assemble my thoughts as a “review.” The reason for this post is because I am in an emotional void, having emitted everything into the fictional world of Prythian. And I HAVE to tell someone about it!
I’ve been on a reading spree as of late. Binging the Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid, and they are perfectly adorable romance novels. Several novels in the On Dublin Street saga by Samantha Young, these romances are hot in more ways than one! I also devoured Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, which reminded me that I never finished reading her fabulous books about the Grisha Universe (The Shadow and Bone trilogy). Must remedy that. And finally, Drums of Autumn, Outlander book 4 and I was a tad bit disappointed with that one.
But the book that thoroughly skewered me, and left me in a puddle of sweat and tears was A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas. This is the third novel in the Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy I’m a little late to the party, the book was released this past spring, but I am so glad I decided to finally tackle this trilogy.
I am a HUGE fan of Sarah J. Maas. I read her debut novel, Throne of Glass, at the recommendation of my friend Cat. I was so wrapped up in the world she had built and the characters that she had created in The Throne of Glass series that I was hesitant to start something else by Sarah. It couldn’t possibly be as good, right? So, so very wrong. I don’t think one series is better than the other, they are two completely different beasts. Each one, sinking it’s claws into me and captivating me in it’s own way.
But ACOWR, ugh. I wanted to race through it, because I wanted to know what was going to happen to my beloved people, I mean fae, but at the same time I was in a constant state of anxiety, because WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN!?! And then it was over, tears and sobs.
Such a great trilogy. And I’m ecstatic to have learned there will be a spin-off series too! So ready to revisit this world and these characters.
